Summer in December
Happy Holidays! While the holidays are a great time of celebration, they are completely detrimental to the environment. During the holidays travel increases, trash increases, pollution increases, and food use/waste increases. All of these lead to a negative impact that is unlike any other time of the year. During the holidays Americans throw away 25% more trash during the Thanksgiving to New Year's holiday period than any other time of year. Travel increases greatly which leads to an increase in pollution. Many people cook extravagant holiday meals, which leads to an increase in both food waste and pollution caused by cooking. In order to combat this negative effect, you can do simple things like reuse ribbon or wrap gifts in reused materials, such as newspapers. We're thinking about Summer in December so Motion of the Ocean and our overseeing non-profit has decided to run a fundraiser for a local beach clean-up group: Alliance for a Living Ocean (ALO). This organization leads beach cleanups year-round and is based in Long Beach Island, New Jersey. We want to make a difference this holiday season and we couldn't do it without your help. ALO has the facilities to make a difference immediately which is why we have chosen to support them for this holiday season. We have set up a Facebook fundraiser to raise funds for ALO. 100% of the proceeds will go towards their organization and helping the environment. In order to combat the negative effect of the holidays on the environment, everybody has to do their part. Consider donating to help us do ours.
