Aluminum Recyling

For many years companies in a variety of industries have been using plastic to package their products. This plastic, which is technically recyclable, ends up being a strain on landfills and the environment. This is because it is very hard to recycle plastic into a new product and most areas of the United States don't have the infrastructure available to do this. The various different materials and mixes of plastic in each product lead to only about 8.5% of plastic being recycled. While plastic is a very inefficient material when it comes to recycling, aluminum is a very viable replacement. Aluminum is much easier to recycle than plastic and also can be recycled indefinitely without losing any quality. In comparison, food-grade plastics usually get downgraded to normal plastic after being recycled, aluminum does not follow that same trend. Researchers predict that 75% of aluminum that has ever been produced is still in use today. Companies like Coke and Pepsi are investigating a switch to all-aluminum instead of plastic bottles while water company, Liquid Death, has already committed to that. While aluminum is not perfect and it is likely that more aluminum will go to waste if more of it is in use, it provides a better option than plastic. Obviously, it would be best for the environment to use reusable bottles but if single-use bottles are still being created, aluminum is the most environmentally safe material for those bottles.
